What is Renuvion/J-Plasma Skin Tightening?
Renuvion, (formerly called J-Plasma), is an FDA-cleared minimally invasive treatment that tightens loose skin using cold plasma energy, which is created by activating helium gas with radiofrequency waves applied to the skin’s surface or, alternatively, beneath the skin through the use of a long, thin tube called a cannula. The combination of cold plasma and high energy heat from the helium gas causes the skin’s collagen to contract and the skin to tighten over time.
Is Renuvion Skin Tightening Right for You?
If you have loose skin that has not responded to other measures of correction, and you are a healthy adult, Renuvion may be an option for you. For patients whose loose skin is accompanied by a layer of fat, such as under the upper arms, liposuction can be performed prior to a Renuvion treatment.
For patients with severe skin looseness, especially problematic after extreme weight loss and/or multiple pregnancies, Renuvion may not be adequate for the results sought. The Renuvion Skin Tightening Procedure
The device is used in two different ways: (1) over the surface of the skin and (2) beneath the surface of the skin.
For those who need fat removal via liposuction as part of their treatment, the Renuvion cannula can be inserted into the liposuction incisions after the liposuction procedure is completed. Otherwise, for those patients that do not need liposuction, tiny incisions are made in the treatment area(s) to deliver the RF energy, essentially firming from the inside out.
Recovery from a Renuvion/J-Plasma Skin Tightening
Average recovery time following a Renuvion/J-Plasma skin tightening treatment is usually between 1-3 weeks. Patients will be instructed to wear a compression garment for a varying amount of time depending on which area of the body was treated. Inflammation and minimal swelling may last a bit longer, even up to 4 weeks post treatment. Based on your medical history, pain medication and antibiotics may be prescribed. You should restrict yourself to light activity for a few days following treatment. Strenuous activities should be restricted until your Miami cosmetic surgeon says it is okay to resume them.
