Although there are numerous challenges that women face, one that is rarely talked about but it’s actually very common is embarrassment about the appearance of their labia, which are the “lips” around the vaginal area. Women with enlarged lips are not just embarrassed and self-conscious during intimacy but many experience actual physical discomfort during intercourse and/or when wearing tight clothing or swimwear.
Although every woman’s vagina is unique, some women are embarrassed and self-conscious about the way the outside of their vagina looks—even after they have been reassured that they are normal!
The most common concerns of the Labia Minora (thin inner lips) and Labia Majora (thick outer lips):
- A shape that is not smooth
- Color that isn’t consistent and matching on both sides.
- Lack of symmetry: the labia are uneven and/or the inner labia are too large compared with the outer labia. Most women want the inner labia to be smaller and the outer to be “puffy.”
- Large labia majora that cause discomfort during intercourse, when exercising, or while wearing tight clothing.
All of these concerns can be corrected with a Labiaplasty procedure.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a same-day outpatient cosmetic surgery correction and enhancement of the labia minora (inner lips) and labia majora (outer lips) for a more pleasing appearance in contour, color, symmetry, size, and smooth edges.
We use a popular procedure which preserves edge, color, contour, and symmetry while reducing size and hiding the suture line. This surgery transforms enlarged inner lips of the vagina (that excessively extend below the outer lips) into petite, smaller lips. In addition to excising the extra tissue, we are able to either add or remove fat from your labia. By doing so we are able to refine the shape of the vagina to your liking. Many women will specify whether they want fat removed or if they want fat to be added to create a “plumper” look.
Recovery from Labiaplasty
In most cases, recovery from labiaplasty in our Miami cosmetic surgery practice occurs rapidly, with most patients returning to work and social activities within a couple of days. Rigorous exercise and sexual activity will require a longer healing time, however. The results are usually visually dramatic, creating an aesthetically pleasing vagina that can give a woman back her confidence and self-esteem, while eliminating the discomfort she had been experiencing.
